DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Crews are battling a fire at a scrap yard in Dayton.

Dispatch received a call around 3:30 p.m. saying thick, black smoke could be seen billowing from Franklin Iron and Metal located at 1939 East First Street.

According to firefighters, a pile of “stuff” caught fire, but officials say that piles of metal can sometimes spontaneously catch fire.

First street is closed while the fire is knocked down.

No word on the cause.
