3-year-old’s death ruled accidental

ANNA, Ohio (WDTN) – Montgomery County Coroner’s Office confirms that Noah Bickford, 3, died due to drowning and hypothermia.

His death has been ruled accidental, after he was taken to Wilson Memorial Hospital then taken via care flight to Dayton Children’s Hospital where he later died.

Bickford’s mother found her son outside their home drowning at a rotting ice pond in their backyard.

Maurissa Bickford, 39, attempted to save her son; she was able to get him out onto land.

Two nearby Shelby County employees rushed to assist the mother, who eventually got stuck herself inside the pond.

Both mother and son died following the rescue attempt.

Visitation is set for Monday afternoon at Adams Funeral Home at 1401 Fair Road.

The funeral for both mother and son will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sidney.
