DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Dayton Police are investigating a shooting in the 3500 block of Linden Avenue.
It happened just before 9 p.m. Sunday.
Police say the owner of the 3rd Base Drive Thru was in his office and saw two armed men trying to rob his drive-thru on his security camera.
So, he came out to defend it. Police say he shot one of the suspects, 19-year-old Ian York, in the chest.
2 NEWS spoke with the owner, Tom Mauro, about the shooting. He said the suspects picked the wrong place to rob and called it a poor life choice on their part.
After beinig shot, York walked next door to the Hasty Tasty Pancake House and collapsed in the lobby of the restaurant.
Someone there called police. York was rushed to Miami Valley Hospital. Police say he has serious injuries but they don't appear to be life-threatening.
Charges are pending against him.
Police are still searching for the other suspect. He reportedly fled to a nearby bike path.
That suspect is described as a white male, about 6 feet tall with a dark brown or dark colored zip-up hoodie.
Police say this store has been robbed three times in the past several years.
In the last robbery in April 2010, Mauro followed the robber out of the store and got a description of the vehicle he got into.
Police later spotted that vehicle and tried to pull it over but the driver took off and crashed. The two men were arrested and are serving prison sentences.
Police don't expect the owner to be charged in this case.
