Updated: Balram Trucking out of Canada told 2 NEWS Investigates through its Columbus attorney that it is conducting its own investigation of the I-75 crash that killed one of its drivers and one other.
Jeffrey Jurca said, "What happened is tragic and unfortunate. Balram is cooperating with the highway patrol and other authorities."
Jurca would not comment on the driving history of Dial Singh Jhutti, the truck driver whom state police consider responsible for the fiery crash August 28 on I-75 near Tipp City.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol's Piqua post which is investigating the crash got back to 2 NEWS investigates with the following answers about the trucking companies involved in their records.
Balram Trucking has three drivers and seven tractors. The company had no reported crashes in the past 24 month in U.S. or Canada.
Central Transport has 2125 drivers and 1671 tractors. The company has a total of 158 crashes reported in the last 24 months in U.S. only, none in Canada.
Arko Exchange has 6 drivers and 5 tractors, and no reported crashes in the past 24 months in U.S. or Canada.
Only one driver, the one from Arko Exchange, had a log book that could be recovered. Investigators say the hours were good and there were no violations.
OSHP says due to the heavy fire damage to the Balram and Central Transport vehicles investigators could not conduct inspections following the crash, and no shipping papers or log books could be located.Lieutenant Rick Albers said findings will be turned over to the prosecutor's office as is customary, though in this case he does not anticipate charges because the at-fault driver died in the crash.
