Weather Underground Forecast for Wednesday, October 16, 2013.
A ridge of high pressure will build over the Southwest on Wednesday, while a cold frontal boundary will stretch from the lower Mississippi Valley to the central Great Lakes.
Rainy conditions will push into the Pacific Northwest, Intermountain West, and northern Plains on Wednesday as a cold front over Canada moves southward. High elevation snow will also be possible in the northern Rockies as a result of this cold front. The Southwest can expect much warmer, drier conditions on Wednesday due to a high pressure system over southern California. Temperatures will range between the upper 80s and lower 90s throughout the California and Arizona deserts.
To the east, a more extensive cold front will stretch from Texas to Michigan, bringing widespread rain and thunderstorms to several regions. During the first half of the day, spotty showers and thunderstorms will be possible from the southern Plains to the Ohio Valley. Light snow showers may also linger in the central Rockies early in the morning. During the afternoon and evening, showers and thunderstorms will stretch from the lower Mississippi Valley, through the Appalachian states and into the Northeast. The majority of the East Coast will stay clear of precipitation through the evening as the cold frontal boundary stays several hundred miles inland. The exception to this will be along the southern tip of Florida, where a lingering low pressure system off of the coast could trigger thunderstorms activity. .
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday have ranged from a morning low of 12 degrees at West Yellowstone, Mont. to a high of 92 degrees at Brownsville, Texas
