MASON, Ohio (AP) - A southwest Ohio man avoided a possible life prison sentence when a judge acquitted him of raping a toddler.
Warren County Common Pleas Court Judge Donald Oda found 49-year-old Patrick Parker not guilty Wednesday of several charges related to accusations that he sexually assaulted a 3-year-old girl with a screwdriver years ago.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the investigation began when the girl told a psychologist about the abuse some two years after it allegedly occurred.
But defense attorneys argued that the girl's story was riddled with inconsistencies. They put experts on the stand to testify she may have been vulnerable to suggested memories.
Prosecutors said they didn't regret bringing the case to trial.
