DAYTON, Ohio (Dayton Business Journal) - A new anchor tenant could be joining the ranks of the Dayton Mall as soon as next year.
Dave Duebber, general manager of the Dayton Mall, couldn't reveal the identity of the retailer. However, he did say the new user would occupy 50,000 square feet of space.
The store would take the 31,000 square feet of space used by DSW Shoe Warehouse, which is relocating to the former Borders store at the mall, and FYE, which closed in January.
Duebber said the retailer first expressed in the mall a few years ago and now is ready to move forward.
"That alone is such a bright light at the end of the tunnel," Duebber said. "Something like this will also be the catalyst for other leasing opportunities in the mall."
Construction for the new tenant is expected to begin this year.
He said a lot of retailers are interesting in coming to the Dayton market, specifically the Dayton Mall.
The mall and its outlots ended 2011 at 95 percent occupancy, with 90 percent occupancy in the mall alone.
DSW's relocation will give the company an addition 3,000 square feet of space. The store already has constructed a new entrance for the store and is scheduled to open at the new site by the end of the month.
