MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WDTN) - Interstate 75 reopened just after 3 p.m. after a multi-vehicle chain reaction accident shut down the southbound lanes for several hours Monday.

The crash involved more than 30 cars and trucks just south of SR 122 between Middletown and Monroe.
A driver involved in the accident told 2 NEWS photographer Jamar Black that winds and snow had created a near white-out condition, making visibility nearly impossible. He said cars were sliding out of control at freeway speeds trying to stop. A tractor-trailer jackknifed across the road and a number of vehicles spun off the side of the road. At least one car flipped on its top.
2 NEWS meteorologist Tara Hastings was at the accident scene and said there were icy conditions on the road just ahead of where the accident occurred.
Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers say there were only minor injuries involved.
At about the same time, a 12-year old girl was killed and at least 20 injured when nearly 100 vehicles piled up in a chain reaction crash on Interstate 275 in Colerain Township, northwest of Cincinnati.
In Columbus, a crash involving as many as 30 vehicles forced officials to close the southbound lanes on Interstate 270 on the city's northeast side. The number of injuries in that crash have not been released.
