NEW PARIS, Ohio (WDTN) - A shot-out car tire leads Preble County Sheriff deputies to two theft suspects.
Deputies received a call from a homeowner Thursday afternoon.
He told deputies that he arrived home in the 12000 block of State Route 121, north of New Paris, to find two men inside the residence.
The suspects fled, but not before the homeowner fired off a shot with his shotgun, hitting a tire of the getaway car.
Deputies say they found the suspects' car on Otterbein Ithica Road in Darke County a short time later. Sure enough, it had a flat tire.
Both suspects were arrested and are now in the Preble County Jail.
Andrew Hanna, 28, of New Madison and Corey Kauffman, 28, of Arcanum are both charged with theft and breaking and entering.
This year, they will help 13 families in need buy toys, clothing and other items.
