WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WDTN) - They're who you're gonna call when there's something fowl in your neighborhood.
"A lot of people think they'll fly away north and they don't," says Robyn Dormire of the many geese in the Miami Valley.
But there is one thing that will get geese to migrate.
"As soon as they see Zoey it doesn't take long for them to go," Robyn says.
Zoey, a playful yellow Lab, is the muscle behind the company called Goosebusters.
"I think she thinks this is the greatest job ever," Robyn says. "I don't even think she thinks it's a job."
But it's become a business for Robyn and her husband. They say warmer temperatures in the Miami Valley have led more geese to make this their home.
"Even in the winter," Robyn says. "We still have jobs that are all year round. In Beavercreek they will sit on top of the ice."
But the geese aren't very gracious guests.
"Sometimes the kids can't come out and play," Robyn says. "It's just a mess. It's not sanitary."
For Bella Freeman, it kept her grandkids from playing outside.
"It just simply was not a very healthy situation," Bella says.
So communities like Country Place, where Bella lives, have started bringing in companies like Goosebusters as a humane way of getting rid of the geese.
"They're never hurt but they get the message," Bella says.
So does it work?
"It seems to be very effective," Bella says.
After a few minutes on this day Zoey has finished frightening off another flock. Goosebusters also has other dogs it uses to chase away the geese.
"Swimming and running around and chasing geese," Robyn says. "I'm sure if you're a dog that's a fabulous life."
Every dog has its day, some just get them a little more often.
"All in a days work," Robyn says. "I guess you should ask her."
Forget the slippery roads and inches of snow on the ground, it's the perfect time to propose marriage. At least that is how Levi Minor felt Friday night.
Snowfall reports vary across the Miami Valley as the storm continues to produce heavy snow, making it hard for drivers to see in some cases.
The National Weather Service canceled the Winter Storm Warning and Winter Weather Advisory just after 9:30 pm.
Sinclair Community College is closing all campus locations for the day due to the inclement weather.
