A woman was shot in the stomach and rushed to a hospital after police said she was involved in a struggle with someone at her front door Thursday night.
Dayton police were called to the home at 57 Drake Avenue just after 9:15 p.m.
The suspect came to the front door moments earlier with a rifle, and tried to barge into the home. That's when the victim, as well as another man inside the home, tried to put up a fight.
Police said the suspect fired the rifle, hitting the woman once.
She was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, then rushed into surgery.
Officials said they are investigating the shooting as a possible robbery. The victim and two men who were inside the home, said they did not know the suspect.
There were also four children inside the home when the shooting happened, but police did not say whether they saw the violence.
Police were still working to deliver a definitive description of the suspect.
They told us the woman was in serious condition.
