DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - It's usually a very quiet place, according to students who live in the University Place Apartments.
The University of Dayton's website states that it's a housing complex for law students.
So, it was a surprise to students to see police lights flashing outside their windows Saturday afternoon.
Officials tell us a UD law student was found unresponsive inside one of these apartments. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His name isn't being released right now.
Officials believe he overdosed on heroin.
"Seeing stuff about heroin. You know, it breaks my heart because all the families have to bury someone that they love and to lose someone in that way, to an OD on heroin, that's just horrible," says Tera Andrews-Arnold.
A UD spokesperson declined to comment about this death investigation.
But, 2 NEWS found crime statistics on the school's website, detailing recent drug activity for on-campus areas, non-campus areas and public property.
According to the report, there were 22 drug law arrests in 2012.
Last year, there were also 243 drug law violations referred for disciplinary action.
"I worry about some of my friends who go to UD, some of my friends who are about to go to UD. I worry a little bit about that," comments Andrews-Arnold.
And some people say this death has prompted them to be a little more cautious when they're in the area.
"If I'm ever down here at night, I'm going to watch my back and keep my phone on hand," says Dakota Finney.
Autopsy results are pending.
