DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a baby was taken to Dayton Children's Medical Center with life-threatening injuries Sunday morning.
Family members identified the 17-month old boy as Takota Hasty. Family members now confirm that the boy has died.
The Sheriff's Office confirmed Dustin Rybak and Crystal Laurel, both 25, have been booked into the Montgomery County Jail in the case. The Sheriff told us Laurel is the child's mother. Rybak is her live-in boyfriend. Child endangering and assault charges are pending against Rybak. Child endangering and permitting child abuse charges are pending against Laurel.
Investigators said the couple took the baby to the hospital from their home on Stafford Avenue in Harrison Township. Its unclear what exactly happened in their home on Stafford Avenue in Harrison Township, but the couple brought Takota to the hospital early Sunday and soon after detectives with the violent crimes unit were contacted.
"He has bruises all over his face and back," said Justin Hasty, who is Takota's biological father. "He also has burn marks on him, like a cigarette has been put out on his body."
Detectives have not released any further details. The investigation is on-going.
