DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - A BMW and SUV collided at the intersection of Patterson Boulevard and Sixth Street just before 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
It didn't take long for investigators to determine the driver of the SUV was at fault. Surveillance video from a nearby business captured the SUV pulling out into the BMW driver's path.
Two people were injured and transported to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The video also captured people rushing towards the accident to help.
It was a similar scene Monday afternoon near Englewood. A city camera captured an 87-year-old woman slamming into the back of a flat bed tow truck. She was killed on impact.
"The video shows a pretty significant impact," said Lt. Mark Nichols. "There was no sign of breaking."
The City of Englewood has 28 cameras that allow dispatchers to survey major roadways, as well as public parks and buildings. They were installed in 2006 and according to police, without opposition.
In April, Dayton city leaders considered using aerial surveillance. The Video would be utilized to help homicide investigations and other major crimes, or when disturbances, natural disasters and swat call outs occur.
Residents shot down the plan.
Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl still believes aerial surveillance is a sign of the future.
"I don't think the conversation is going away, as it relates to technology, whether it be this specific form of technology is uncertain at this point, but clearly, camera technology is coming," said Chief Biehl.
"We simply don't have the staffing to put a police officer at every corner."
