FAIRBORN, Ohio (WDTN) - At OinkADoodleMoo it's as much about the people as it is the barbeque.
"A lot of them we can tell when they're walking up what they're going to order," says co-founder Ralph Gamberdella.
But lately at its Wright-Patterson location one of those ingredients has been missing.
"I wouldn't say it's a ghost town but there's a lot of people who aren't there," Gamberdella says.
Gamberdella says they're seeing more than a 100 fewer customers a day on base because of the furloughs caused by the government shutdown, so they've decided to close that restaurant for the time being, along with a trailer that serves people on the base.
"Unfortunately in business when you spend more than you make it's hard to keep a location open," Gamberdella says.
Gamberdella says shuttering the base location will impact four workers.
"We're trying to find them more hours in the stores where we can but unfortunately we've had to cut back their hours as well," Gamberdella says.
He says the closure will also take away one of the restaurant chain's best advertising opportunities.
"It's given us a tremendous amount of exposure because people that work on the base live all over the Miami Valley," Gamberdella says.
For now the restaurant, like the base workers it serves, can only wait to see what lawmakers dish out.
"If the government can settle something and people can get back to work we'd gladly be back there serving people again," Gamberdella says.
OinkADoodleMoo's other Miami Valley locations remain open.
