TROTWOOD, Ohio (WDTN) - Investigators believe alcohol may have fueled a deadly confrontation between a father and son in Trotwood.
Crews were called to an apartment building on reports of shots fired at 5530 Autumn Woods Drive around 7:30 pm. Wednesday.
Medics found Royal P. Garrett Junior, 37, lying face down near a parking lot with a gun shot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police took his father, Royal P. Garrett Senior, 64, into custody.
Garrett Senior told police his son came home drunk and there were some threats made during an argument. Investigators believe that's when Garrett Senior fired two shots at Garrett Junior. Police said one bullet grazed the son's neck and the other entered his side, killing him.
A third family member, the mother and wife, also lives in the apartment. She is unable to move on her own and was transported to a local hospital for care. She was not injured.
Toxicology testing will determine if in fact Garrett Junior had alcohol in his system.
Garrett Senior remains in the Montgomery County jail on an unofficial murder charge. Investigators plan to present the case to prosecutors Friday.
The investigation is on-going.
