DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - A Dayton police officer fired his weapon during a robbery investigation Tuesday afternoon.
Officers responded to 2946 Lindale Avenue on a report of a robbery in progress just after 3:30 pm. They say a neighbor noticed a broken window at the house and called police.
Investigators say an off-duty officer arrived at the scene to investigate first. He ended up arresting one suspect in the basement of the home.
While he was inside, an on-duty officer arrived to find a suspicious black pickup truck parked outside.
Officers say the man in the truck tried to run down the officer. The officer fired his weapon at the suspect when the man appeared to reach for something inside the truck cab. He also made an officer in trouble call that sent crews from across the county to the scene.
The suspect fled and has yet to be located. He is described as being in his 50s, with a medium heavy build, driving an older black pickup truck with 30-day tags.
No one was hurt in the exchange. The homeowners were not home at the time.
Police were still at the scene as of 6:00 pm investigating what happened.
