MIAMI TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WDTN) - People all over the Miami Valley should be on the lookout for this possible scheme.
The Preble County Sheriff issued an alert today, warning people about a duo, going door-to-door, trying to sell Omaha Steaks.
The company tells the sheriff it never does door-to-door sales.
The two, a female and another person, were seen in a black Chevy SUV yesterday, they reportedly went to neighborhoods around New Paris trying to sell the steaks.
Meanwhile, in Montgomery County, homeowners in Miami Township are reporting similar incidents.
We talked with two Miami Township residents who said two men who went door-to-door in their neighborhood yesterday, trying to sell meat from a white truck.
They didn't want their faces shown on camera but they want to warn you so you don't fall victim.
"He had a story about a customer up the street that had meat delivery today and wanted to use American Express and he wasn't able to accept American Express so they used another credit card but he could only take half the order. So, he was stuck with half an order of meat and was interested in selling it at a cheaper price," says one resident.
"You think you're in a good community but obviously no neighborhood is a great neighborhood anymore," comments another resident.
Officials say legitimate employees will carry a visible badge and company information so you can call and confirm their identity.
They advise you to never let anyone into your home until you do so and if you think something is suspicious, call your local law enforcement immediately.
