BUTLER TWP., Ohio (WDTN) - A new national ad campaign for the summer might have you screaming, "I know that guy!"
Englewood police sergeant, Butler Township trustee and Sinclair Community College teacher Mike Lang now has a new title to add to the list, as if he needed one. Lang is one of the new faces of Weber Grills.
"Grilling is a huge passion of mine," said Lang. "After a long day at work, to come home and fire up the grill really puts me in my happy spot."
Lang's 'happy spot' is located directly in front of one, or several, of his Weber grills. They stand guard over the massive deck in his Butler Township back yard.
Lang is also the author of a food, photography and travel focused blog called Another Pint Please . It was through that blog that officials with Weber discovered his work.
"I had sold a photograph to Weber about five years ago," Lang said. "I first got my delivery of my new Weber Summit grill, the first day of the redesign. I'd been waiting for it and saving for it and got it. The box arrived, I climbed on top of it and my wife took a picture of it and they loved it."
That photo was used in Weber ads, and Lang said he kept in touch with the company, which called once again earlier this year. They asked if he wanted to do a video testimonial.
"Of course I said yes," Lang said.
Lang's no stranger to the camera. He's done many interviews for 2 News as a police officer and trustee. He said he had no idea what was in store for him when the commercial shoot rolled around.
"I honestly thought, I was thinking, you know, what I do at home, two people and a camera. And then I was told there would be 20 people here and it would be about a 12 hour day," Lang said. "I don't usually have make-up being put on when I'm doing a street side interview. Which was kind of comical."
Comical because by his own admittance, the prep work involved powdering Lang's bald head.
"Certainly it blew away my expectations," he said.
The finished video is part of the "Weber Experience" campaign on the company's homepage .
Lang's payment for participating in the campaign is a new grill. Which is likely more exciting to this grill master than any amount of cash.
