MIAMISBURG, Ohio (WDTN) -
20-year-old Jenna Parlette was a track and cross country star at Miamisburg High School.
After graduating in 2011, she went to Wilmington College where she continued to run.
"She was dedicated to her sport. She worked really hard at it and her enthusiasm and hard work and dedication was critical and the key to her success in high school and it carried onto college," says Jeff Parlette, Jenna's uncle.
Jenna had just started her junior year, when she died after a cross country meet in Franklin, Indiana over Labor Day Weekend.
During Miamisburg's football game against Kettering Fairmont Friday night, the school remembered her.
Purple ribbons were passed out and loved ones wore 'Jenna Strong' shirts in her memory.
Jenna's uncle Jeff served as the honorary captain for the game.
"Obviously, it's been a tough week and we've been through a lot but I played on this football field. Jenna's mom cheered here. So, it is quite an honor to be here and with the crowd, it's really helping our family heal. It's quite an honor just to be here," comments Jeff.
Jenna's family has set up the Jenna Strong Scholarship Foundation to continue her legacy.
You can donate at any 5/3 Bank location.
"It's very important to us that, that happens because, again, she loved what she did and was so passionate about it and worked so hard at it, each and every day," explains Jeff.
Jenna's family is inviting you to a celebration of life ceremony for her Saturday at Miamisburg Middle School from 2 to 4 PM.
