VANDALIA, Ohio (WDTN) - Vandalia police want to find a suspected arsonist at a local park before it's too late.
Investigators say two fires were ignited at Van Atta Park in Vandalia Monday morning. Firefighters had to extinguish two small brush fires as a result.
Park patrons spotted the fires and called 911.
"This is not the only one. There are other fires in the barrels in the shelter area that I've seen," said William Bond.
Firefighters said the wet ground helped them get the fires under control quickly.
"Unfortunately, they are occurring when the park's not very populated,. so we are not getting witness information. But, on this one, we did get witness information, so hopefully, we can put this together with our police," said Vandalia Fire Chief Chad Follick.
Investigators believe the two fires Monday are related, but they are still searching for a suspect.
