DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - The director of the Montgomery County Board of Elections is stepping down.
Betty Smith is retiring at the end of July.
Her replacement has not been announced.
The board meets Friday, and the appointment of a new director is on the agenda.
Deputy Director Steve Harsman told 2 NEWS he will not seek that appointment and will remain in his current position.
The one thing know is that the person being appointed will be a Republican, because the director and the deputy director have to be of opposite political parties, and Harsman is a Democrat.
