TROTWOOD, Ohio (WDTN) - The rain seemed only fitting on Sunday, when hundreds said good-bye to their friend, Officer David Yaney.
Yaney was killed in a crash on Wednesday in Englewood. His truck, went off the road, over a ravine and into a creek off Taywood Road.
At the time, Yaney was on his way to work at the Trotwood Police Department, where he's served for the last 33 years.
Friends say he was a staple in the community. "He's been a fixture here in Trotwood," said Captain John Porter. "He was born and raised here in Trotwood. Many know him as a family member and a friend".
Fire engines, medics and police cruisers, from departments all over the area, were seen leaving Phillips Temple where Yaney's visitation was held.
The packed parking lot a small reflection of lives he touched.
"Dave was just one of those people who makes a big impression and leaves a big impression. A positive impression," said Captain Porter.
Yaney will be laid to rest on Monday at 11 a.m. at Phillips Temple on Shiloh Springs Road in Trotwood.
First responders from around the state are expected to attend. During the service, other departments will patrol the city, so that Trotwood officers can be in attendance.
