DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Dayton City Commissioners approved $30,000 Wednesday for four Freedom Schools, one of which will be at the Omega Baptist Church.
The schools are run by the Children's Defense Fund. They are designed to improve reading during summer vacation.
Supporters say the experience is invaluable for students.
"Their eyes light up and you see they really get it that reading does count and is important," said Reverend Vanessa Ward, Omega Baptist Church.
There's already a waiting list for the 200 spots available this summer.
