DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Another week. Another crash.
In the latest one Wednesday, a FedEx truck was sent to the pavement on Interstate 75 over Stanley Avenue.
That stretch of interstate has caused so many crashes that ODOT is now investigating it.
"We're looking for that common link," says ODOT District 7 spokesperson Mandi Abner. "Is there something happening that could be causing this or is it conditions of weather?"
A 2 NEWS investigation into the wrecks found that most involve semis, like the one just last week that sent gallons of fuel spilling onto the Interstate and backed up traffic for hours.
We took our questions about the safety of that stretch of Interstate near Stanley to an ODOT officials.
"Right now they're still reviewing," Abner says. "They have been looking at the area. I think they're planning on meeting at the end of this week to discuss in a little more detail."
In the meantime ODOT says the biggest thing you can do to stay safe through that part of the Interstate is to slow down.
"I think sometimes there's a tendency to go faster especially in an area where there's not a lot of curves," Abner says.
Depending on what ODOT's engineers find, officials tell us there are things they can do to try to make the drive a better one.
"Possibly adding more signs or even doing some milling on the roadway which would make the surface more rough," Abner says.
