DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - A 19-month old boy on life-support has died.
The boy's mother and her boyfriend are in jail as other family members held a vigil all day Monday outside of Dayton Children's Medical Center.
The family showed us a picture of baby Takota Hasty,19 months. You could see the bruising on his face. They say that was just one of his injuries.
Prosecutors are meeting to determine charges against Takota's mom, Crystal Laurel, 25, and her boyfriend Dustin Rybak, 25.
The two suspects took Takota to Dayton Children's early Sunday morning. They were arrested later that day.
Takota's father, Justin Hasty, says he can't imagine what his son went through.
"There's burns on him, bruises from head to toe and I know he was screaming wanting help and he couldn't get it," said Justin Hasty.
Hasty says he told Montgomery County Children's Services about bruises on his other son with Laurel, 4-year old Trayton.
A spokesperson says they did get a referral from Hasty a week before Takota ended up in the hospital, but they were unable to find Laurel.
Hasty just wishes something could have been done to get Takota out of the home.
"I was hoping if they did an emergency one he wouldn't be there right now," said Hasty.
Court records show that this is not Laurel or Rybak's first time in trouble.
Laurel was convicted of theft in 2008. Rybak was convicted of domestic violence for a 2009 incident and of heroin possession a little less than a year ago.
