DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - The 4-year-old Dayton girl at the center of child neglect investigation has died.
Takara Scott passed away on Jan. 5, 2013 at Children's Medical Center.
She was rushed there the night of Jan. 3 after her 16-year-old brother called 911 and told dispatchers he discovered his sister unresponsive and sick.
"I did nothing wrong, " Takara's mother told 2 NEWS. "She just got sick. She always was constantly sick. I took her to the hospital. I thought it was a virus".
At the time, the teen was also taking care of his four other siblings, ranging in age from one to 7-years-old. The parents were not home at the time of the incident.
Lt. Wendy Stiver, with Dayton Police said there were obvious signs of neglect found inside the house when they arrived.
"There was no refrigerator and very little food in the cabinets. There were obvious signs of filth in the home as well," she said.
Investigators have interviewed the child's mother, but would not reveal any details because the investigation is on-going. No arrests have been made.
Police said charges are pending on the outcome of the autopsy.
