DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is offering free boat safety inspections during the Memorial Day weekend.
"Start the boating season safe," said Rodger Norcross, chief of the ODNR Division of Watercraft. "We encourage boaters to take advantage of a free safety inspection to ensure they have all the necessary boating safety equipment on board and it is in working order."
The inspections are available at public boat launch ramps through June.
The ODNR checks for the condition of fire extinguishers, navigational lights, horns and distress signals to make sure they are all working properly.
Officers also check the proper number and type of life jackets are onboard the water craft as required by law.
Visit the ODNR web site for exact locations of where the checks are being conducted.
