DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - The University of Dayton gave away 100 free bicycles to freshmen Friday.
The students pledged not to bring their cars to campus for two years in favor of pedal power.
The giveaway comes as the university opens a new outdoor engagement center in the student neighborhood.
The initiative is the university's way to encourage students to get out and get active.
"We are becoming sustainable Dayton, trying to get everyone to start riding bikes and become more sustainable," said Jennifer Liptak, UD freshman.
The center will offer biking gear for rent and encourage students to take advantage of the area's 300 miles of bike paths recently connected to campus.
