DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - As investigators continue to look into what caused 19-year old Michael Fuchs to fall from a dorm room window., 2 NEWS is asking how someone could get through the window in the first place.
We talked to a student who lives in the Marycrest Complex, the same one where Fuchs fell from the sixth floor on Saturday.
He tells us it would be difficult to get out of the windows.
"I feel like you'd have to try almost but you never know, there are some freak accidents out there," says Robby Ress.
Fuchs was listed in serious condition at Miami Valley Hospital. He isn't the first student to fall from a window.
Larry Cook died three weeks ago after falling from a Stuart Hall window. His death was ruled a suicide but his family believes it wasn't.
With two falls in three weeks, 2 NEWS called University of Dayton officials to ask about the windows in dorms and how far they open.
In a statement, University officials say, "We have had high-rise buildings on campus for over 50 years, and are unaware of any incidents like these of the past few weeks.
"The safety of our students is of utmost importance, and we are looking into what steps we might take. All of our residential buildings are not only up to code, but they exceed code."
2 NEWS also called the office of Dayton's Building Services.
Building officials say state codes would cover dorm rooms.
The only regulation they know of is that the windows have to provide proper ventilation if the room isn't air conditioned.
Otherwise there's nothing governing the window's design or safety.
Officials say the investigation is on-going into what led to Fuch's fall.
