DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - "I've never bared witness to something so tragic," says Howard Lee.
Lee says he was driving his car westbound on Sylvan Drive Sunday just before 5 PM when he was side swiped by another car.
Lee tells us the car was heading northbound on Geneva Road, failed to yield at the stop sign and clipped the front of his car.
"I watched the car flip over, at least 5 to 6 times, you know, just going out of my sight, out the window right here. When it stopped, I knew something fatal had happened ," comments Lee.
Police say an 8-year-old boy in that car was killed.
His family confirms the victim's name is LaKell Newland.
Lee says the driver had non life-threatening injuries and he wasn't hurt.
Neighbors heard the crash and rushed to help.
"It really was horrifying," explains Theresa Dickerson.
Dickerson and Marion Johnson have lived in this neighborhood for more than three decades.
In that time, they say they've witnessed many accidents.
"It's just a good a straightway that people just, kind of use for speeding. But, it's so residential and there's so many kids that be riding their bikes in and out of driveways," says Johnson.
They hope this deadly crash will prompt changes to this intersection to make it safer for everyone in the neighborhood.
"I think a 4-way would be good, maybe a 4-way, at this point, because that was pretty horrific or at least a speed bump. You know, a reminder to stop before the stop sign," comments Dickerson.
Police are still investigating the deadly crash.
When police arrived in the 1300 block of Camphill Way they found a man in his early 20s dead in front of an apartment building.
