BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio (WDTN) - A Bellefontaine man is accused of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of five years old.
Bellefontaine police say Matthew Haley, 28, violently attack the child at an apartment complex on Gunntown Road.
Authorities began their investigation after the victim notified her mother December 23, 2012.
Police said the Bellefontaine man was indicted for two counts of rape and two counts of gross sexual imposition along with a sexually violent predator specification.
Authorities would not go into detail about how Haley was connected to this crime because they said they do not want to hinder the case against him.
Sergeant Ed Peters said there's a lesson to be learned out of this disturbing case.
"Good communication with your children. Talk to them. Talk about personal safety. Have open lines communications with your children. There are good ways to teach your children that its ok to tell, and you don't need to be scared," said Peters.
