DEGRAFF, Ohio (WDTN) - A Logan County band director faces felony sex charges.
John Shook of Riverside Local Schools was indicted Tuesday on 12 counts of felony sex charges involving two students at the school.
Investigators say more charges could come if their suspicions are right that other students are involved.
"My daughter is in band and that made me feel very disgusted," said Melissa Hereford, parent.
Authorities aren't saying where the alleged crimes happened.
Shook was already on administrative leave when the indictments came down.
District Superintendent Scott Mann says a parent called the school claiming Shook started a tradition of spanking his students with a paddle on their birthdays.
Mann said Shook described it as students getting a "birthday spanking".
Mann says the parent had even more concerns about the band teacher.
"Another incident where he had been discouraging yoga pants in the class room and ended up removing his pants and biker compression shorts or swim shorts at that time. So, while that was being investigated, making sure we were doing our due diligence, this has turned into a long investigation," said Mann.
Shook teaches band and choir for grades 5 through 12.
He is currently in the Logan County Jail awaiting his arraignment Wednesday.
The superintendent says counselors will be at the school for the next couple days to help any students upset by the charges.
