FAIRBORN, Ohio (WDTN) - Starting Wednesday morning, a road in Fairborn will be closed as crews begin removing a set of vacant train tracks.
Drivers won't be able to use Kauffman Avenue, where it changes to Central Avenue, starting at 9 a.m.
It's by law that school bus drivers must come to a complete stop at railroad crossings. Crews will be removing one of two sets of tracks-- allowing schools buses to make just one stop, instead of two.
Originally, Fairborn City Schools requested a sign that would allow them to cross without stopping, but engineers were afraid bus drivers might cross the live tracks as well, creating a dangerous situation.
If you drive through this area, you can take Kauffman Avenue to Powell Avenue, to South Maple Avenue-- then Dayton Drive back to Central Avenue.
One the tracks are removed, crews will pave the area.
The closure is expected to last two to three days.
