FAIRBORN, Ohio (WDTN) - Fairborn police say a resident shot and killed his 20-year old grandson Tuesday afternoon.
The shooting happened just before noon at a home on Oakhill Avenue. The victim was dead at the scene.
Neighbors say the victim is a Fairborn High School graduate and former football player.
Neighbors heard four or five gunshots coming from the house around lunchtime.
Police say the grandfather then ran next door and told his neighbors to call police because he just shot his grandson.
People who live nearby call the grandfather the perfect neighbor. They say he was always out doing yard work and clearing snow for his neighbors. They couldn't believe what they saw.
Police have not filed any charges against the grandfather.
They do say they've had prior contact with the victim, but not at Oakhill Avenue home.
Police have not released the victim's name.
