CEDARVILLE, Ohio (WDTN) - Two Indianapolis sisters who lost their mother in a fatal bus crash moved into Cedarville University Friday with the memory of their mother on their minds.
"Faith in God is what gave my mom strength to carry on, and it's something that we cling to," stated Emily Weindorf, a freshman biology and premed major at Cedarville University.
With bins and crates, Emily and Gretta Weindorf said goodbye to their father and moved into Willetts Hall.
"Cedarville has been so kind and welcoming. It's been amazing," said Gretta.
The sisters already bid their goodbyes to their mother Tonya in July after losing her in a horrific bus crash in Indianapolis.
"The last few weeks have just been a bit of a whirlwind," said their father, Chuck Weindorf.
Tonya Weindorf was among those killed when the bus, coming back from a religious camp, sped off the interstate just a mile from their church.
"After the accident I just really felt that it was important for me to be closer to home," said Gretta.
Gretta, a junior nursing major, transferred from a college in Wisconsin, to Cedarville, which is two hours away from home and also close to her sister.
"God showed us that we need to be together. We really need each other for this," said Emily.
The girls knew they had to continue their education to honor their mother.
"She was a teacher. She loved education. that was where her heart was," said Emily.
"My daughters are wonderful. They're a reflection of my wife," beamed Chuck.
Through the hardship, the family said their faith has never wavered.
"She told us she prayed for us everyday and she loved us so much and she showed God's love to us," said Gretta.
Chuck said he will be planning many trips this school year to visit his daughters.
