SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) - Springfield Schools Superintendent Dr. David Estrop said a newly proposed budget plan from the Ohio House would give more than $3.1 million for the 2013 school year and more than $3.4 million the following school year in additional funding.
"School funding was cut and then held constant at a reduced amount. This is making some strides in restoring funding that schools have had in the past," Dr. Estrop said.
Estrop said the additional money would help fund newly mandated state initiatives.
"At least on the initial review, if it's an increase over what the governor has proposed, it will help us not only continue to do what we are doing, but address some of the new state initiatives, particularly the third grade reading guarantee," Dr. Estrop said.
Dr. Estrop said it's too early to tell if this new budget will actually take affect. He said the House version of the budget will now have to go through to the Senate for any revisions before going to Governor Kasich for approval.
