SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) - Drivers on I-70 east will be safer this Memorial Day weekend. Sheriff Gene Kelly said there will be at least ten deputies directing traffic near the Clark County Fairgrounds for the Car Show and Swap Meet.
15 cars crashed last Friday on a very foggy morning. Many were making their way to the Springfield Flea Market at the fairgrounds.
The Ohio State Patrol will be on standby for assistance should deputies need help directing the larger volume of traffic. The Oho Department Of Transportation also plans on placing portable signs up to a mile a way from mile marker 59, warning drivers to merge to the right and watch their speeds.
"We are taking every precaution to make sure this event is smooth," said Sheriff Kelly.
Sheriff Kelly knows everyone wants to have a good time this holiday weekend, but he's warning drivers to make wise decisions to decrease the chances of another accident like the pile up last week.
