Victim in Springfield shooting has died

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) - The woman who was shot while driving a vehicle in Springfield has died, according to police.

Melody Turner, who was shot on Friday on North Street, has died at Miami Valley Hospital.

Police say it happened around noon on Friday. Authorities say Turner was driving on North Street with her significant other when another car pulled up next to her and fired shots.

Springfield police believe that Turner's significant other may have known the suspect, identified as Tevious Turner. Police are working to determine whether or not Tevious meant to shoot Melody, or her significant other.

Tevious Turner was arrested around 6:30 p.m. Friday just six miles north of Tennessee in Whitley County, Kentucky. He is currently being held on a fugitive warrant and faces extradition back to Ohio, said staff at the Whitley County Jail.

He is considered a suspect in the case. Police also say they don't believe they are related, and that their last names are coincidences.

Springfield police have also confirmed that Tevious Turner was the manager of the Quality Inn in Springfield at the time of the shooting.

He is being held in Williamsburg, Kentucky awaiting extradition. According to jail records, Tevous Turner's registered address is in Cartersville, Georgia.
