FOUNTAIN CITY, Ind. (AP) - Officials in an eastern Indiana town that's about to lose its only bank have collected about 600 signatures on a petition urging bank officials not to close the branch.
Fountain City's MainSource bank branch is scheduled to close Friday, leaving behind only its ATM.
The Palladium-Item reports Fountain City's planning commission voted Tuesday to ask the town council to pursue the possibility of finding a new bank for the space.
The council has sent its petition to the president and chief executive officer of the Greensburg-based MainSource Financial Group him to "reconsider and reverse" the bank closure decision.
MainSource president and CEO Daryl R. Tressler says the Fountain City bank is one of eight branches the bank chose for closure based on several factors.
Fountain City is located Wayne County, about 10 miles north of Richmond.
