RANDOLPH CO., Indiana (WDTN) - A 12-year old boy is dead after an accidental shooting in Randolph County, Indiana.
The West Union Fire Department responded to the call Saturday afternoon at 4864 South 500 West which is a rural area of the county.
They arrived to find people already giving the boy CPR. Medics took over and removed the boy to St. Vincent-Randolph Hospital in Winchester where he was pronounced dead.
Mitchell Gilliland, 36, told police he was putting a rifle away in a gun cabinet when it discharged, striking the boy in the chest.
Investigators say the shooting was accidental.
The relationship of Gilliland to the boy was not disclosed.

Police will be meeting with prosecutors in the "near future" to determine what charges a person of interest will face in connection with Tuesday's shooting in West Carrollton, officials there announced.
