Dayton woman dies after shot in head

WDTN Staff - DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - A woman has died after being shot in a Dayton home.

According to police, it happened in the 100 block of Lorenz Avenue just before 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Regional dispatch says someone was shooting outside of the home, and bullets went through the house hitting a woman in the head.

The Montgomery County Coroner's Office has identified the victim as 22-year-old Keyona Murray of Dayton. She was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, where she later died.

Neighbors we spoke with said they are shocked and saddened for the young woman's family.

"She's 22," said Bea Page, who lives in the neighborhood. "She's still a child."

Page said she heard three gunshots.

"My daughter was upstairs in the shower, and she ran down 'cause my other granddaughter was coming over, and she said, 'Mom, your street is full with police and everything,'" she said. "I was like, 'Are you serious?' It happened so quick."

People like Page describe the neighborhood as quiet and family-oriented - a place where neighbors look out for each other.

"It's a pretty decent neighborhood," said one man, who asked to remain anonymous. "We had our bad times, just like anybody else's neighborhood."

He said he wants to see an end to the violence.

"The girl is dead," he said. "She's dead. They can't do nothing else but bury her, miss her, cry about her, so on and so forth, and hope it don't have to happen next week in this neighborhood, in their neighborhood. Ain't nobody want to see nobody else die."

There's no word on any suspects or a motive.

The incident is still under investigation.
