DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Dayton police are investigating after two sergeants fatally opened fire on an armed suspect early Sunday evening.
The sergeants were dispatched to the area of 30 East Helena Street near Riverside Drive after police received multiple 911 calls of a man waiving a rifle at people and cars.
The sergeants confronted 34-year-old Daniel Holt just inside Island MetroPark. Investigators said Holt pointed his rifle at the sergeants, who then opened fire on him.
Holt was rushed to Miami Valley Hospital where he soon after was pronounced dead.
Homicide detectives set up an extensive perimeter around the scene. As standard procedure, both sergeants were taken in for questioning and will be on paid administrative leave pending the investigation.
Police have not identified the officers involved.
The investigation is ongoing.
