DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - A grieving mother is making a plea for justice. Her son, Corey Mitchell, was gunned down in Dayton in May 2010. His two children were at his side.
"There's a hole right here in my heart you took my child," said Carol Gilmore, victim's mother.
Police say Mitchell, 34, was ambushed and fatally shot outside his home in the 100 block of Paul Laurence Dunbar Street. His 11 year old twins were with him when it happened. His daughter was also hit.
"It's been hard in counseling for nine months. Tryesha has a wound on her leg she'll never forget."
Because the gunman wore a mask and gloves, the children were unable to identify him, but police have still made significant progress in the case and are very close to bringing charges.
They just need that missing piece of the puzzle and Carol Gilmore says someone has it.
"There was even someone who came up to me at his funeral, a young lady, and I plead to her, to you, because she and someone else knows something."
Gilmore is also in counseling as well.
Her therapist tells her that she, like all parents of murdered children, is now serving a life sentence.
She says it's time for someone else to do the same.
"What kind of monster. You hurt our whole family."
