DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - It could be a bad year for measles.
That's the word from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and it is now being echoed by doctors here in the Miami Valley.
Measles is highly contagious and can be deadly although it's been mostly eliminated in this country by vaccines.
Dayton Children's Hospital has not seen any cases of measles, but officials say its still a very important vaccine to get.
"A number of us because we don't see these diseases, forget these diseases and while many times these disease may not be severe, a number of times they can be quite severe. In the world there is mortality associated with measles," said Dr. Sherman Alter, Dayton Children's Hospital.
The largest outbreak of measles was in New York City with 58 cases.
23 were reported in North Carolina, 21 in Texas.
