Texas gun range to host kids' parties

Children must be 8 years old to shoot guns

LEWISVILLE, Texas (NBC/KXAS) - The new gun range facility being built in Lewisville, Texas, is advertising family-friendly fun, including birthday parties for children.

The Eagle Indoor Gun Range is still under construction, but according to owner David Prince, it will be a 24-lane indoor firing range for experts and beginners.

“We thought we’d build one of the quality, state-of-the-art, air-conditioned gun ranges in Texas,” he said.

Prince said that two rooms will be available for birthday parties.

"The age limit is 8 years old," said Prince. "You have to be tall enough to get above the shooting table, OK. But they're not going to be left unattended. The parents are going to be one-on-one, or if there's not enough parents, we're going to have safety officers here."

The family-friendly firing range is being well-received by neighbors in Lewisville. However, some parents have questions about the idea.

“It makes me very nervous,” said Dawn McMullan, mother of two and a gun control advocate.

“I think 8-year-olds, developmentally, can't tell the difference between play and reality sometimes, and also put it in a party or game atmosphere just seems to not respect a gun as much as we should respect guns," she said.

Eagle Gun Range expects to open for business sometime later this summer.
