ATLANTA (CNN) - An Army National Guardsman says he owes his life to a pair of dogs he had to leave behind in Afghanistan. The animals sounded the alarm when a suicide bomber attacked.

Now, the guardsman and others are providing these dogs with a new home. Sgt. Christopher Duke and his wife are adopting Rufus. The other dog, Target, will be adopted by a medic who was also at the camp when these dogs saved their lives.

Click the video player above to hear their amazing story, one that almost didn't have a happy reunion ending.
