WASHINGTON (CNN/NATIONAL ARCHIVES) - Theodore Roosevelt was the 26th president of the United States.
Teddy, as he was known, was born October 27th, 1858 and was not yet 43 years old when he was sworn into office, making him the youngest president in history.
Prior to becoming president, he served as the governor of New York, assistant secretary of the Navy and a Colonel of the Rough Riders.
He also wrote 35 books.
He's remembered for his big personality, unbridled energy, wide range of interests and his "cowboy" image.
He died January 6th, 1919.
