New strategies for a new job search

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - A man with a wealth of executive experience at companies like Lexis-Nexis and the National Composite Center has a new venture and he wants to help you find a job. Phil Mowry calls himself a Daytonian, though he was born in Pennsylvania. He believes there are plenty of employment opportunities in the Miami Valley, but people have to give up on the traditional ways to find them.

Mowry heads up a new company he founded called GreenFields Career Transformation. Its mission is to transform people for long-term success in the new economy. Mowry says the 'mothership' isn't coming back. The corporation isn't going to take care of you anymore.

"When the economy is good and when things are flowing quite well there are generally a bunch of posted jobs that people can pursue," Mowry explained. "But the economy has changed fundamentally so that opportunity space is now that unarticulated, unseen economy - that piece of the iceberg that's underwater."

Mowry said at any given time there are billions of dollars in the Dayton economy and he credits three areas: Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, the hospital system, and the university system.

"The challenge is for people to figure out how to plug into that opportunity space," said Mowry. "The key is to understand where you fit and what value you can add to this stream of money."

Mowry said GreenFields can help transform people into everything from valuable plumbers to executives. The sky's the limit.

"We have programs and pricing for the blue collar worker all the way up to the senior executives and the pricing starts at about $500 for a program. So it really is affordable for everyone trying to find their way forward," Mowry said.

But Mowry said there are no guarantees. You have to accept that traditional ways of applying for posted jobs and sitting back and waiting won't work. You don't necessarily have to start you own company but you need to reinvent yourself and market yourself.
