DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - A man was arrested early Thursday morning after he flipped his van in a crash while trying to avoid authorities.

The suspect hit another driver attempting to turn into his driveway on Crestmore Avenue. Neither driver was injured, but both cars suffered heavy damage.

Minutes before the crash the suspect spotted an officer out on patrol, according to reports. Before that officer had a chance to do anything, the suspect sped away.

The man told police he didn't have a license, so that's why he panicked. Authorities also say he had a traffic warrant.

At one point, police say he turned his headlights off to try to escape. Moments later he hit that car, but still tried to run from the scene.

Officers fired a taser at him but say it didn't seem to have any effect. They were able to capture him, though.

Now he's facing a number of charges for traffic violations and for resisting arrest.

"You're taking a simple minor misdemeanor citation and had he caused injuries you're looking at felonies and something you'll have to live with for the rest of your life if you actually killed somebody," Sgt. Richard Blommel says.
